Hong Kong's French dining is concentrated on Hong Kong Island, in Central's hotels and office towers and the steep streets of Soho and Sheung Wan, with a smaller cluster across the harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui. The range runs from harbour-view tasting rooms to small wine bistros.
Amber at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental and Caprice at the Four Seasons both hold three Michelin stars, while L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon and L'Envol at The St. Regis hold two. Louise at PMQ and Belon on Elgin Street each have one star. For bistro cooking, Jean-Pierre on Bridges Street serves roast chicken and crêpes Suzette, Bouillon Bistro Parisien works from organic produce in Sheung Wan, and La Cabane Wine Bistro pours natural wine on Hollywood Road. Fleur de Sel in Causeway Bay makes buckwheat galettes.
Starred restaurants book up weeks ahead, and set lunches are the most accessible way to try them. Hotel dining rooms expect smart dress. Central and Sheung Wan are easy to reach by MTR, and the Central–Mid-Levels escalator helps with the Soho hills. Expect top-end prices at the starred rooms and fairer set menus at neighbourhood bistros.
