Central is Hong Kong's business district, and its hotels, office towers and the steep streets of Soho above it hold the city's greatest concentration of French restaurants. The Landmark and nearby hotels host formal dining rooms, while Elgin Street, Hollywood Road and Lyndhurst Terrace are lined with bistros and wine bars.
Amber at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental and Caprice at the Four Seasons both hold three Michelin stars, and L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon holds two. Restaurant Petrus, Belon, Louise and Plaisance by Mauro Colagreco each have one star. Jean-Pierre (Michelin Selected) is a Belle Époque bistro on Bridges Street, LPM brings Riviera sharing plates to H Queen's, and LALA is known for vol-au-vent and pâté en croûte. Bouchon Bistro Français and La Cabane Wine Bistro cover classic bistro food and natural wine.
Book starred restaurants weeks ahead; set lunches are the most affordable way in. Hotel dining rooms expect smart dress. Central MTR station serves the towers, and the Central–Mid-Levels escalator climbs to Soho. Expect top-end prices at the starred rooms and more moderate bills at the Soho bistros.
