La Cabane started as a wine importer and its Hollywood Road bistro still works like a cellar with tables. The room is small and warm, with exposed brick, wood panelling and lights strung through empty bottles, and it fills up with a lively after-work crowd. The focus is natural and low-sulphur wine from small growers, with a list that changes monthly and plenty poured by the glass.
Food is built for drinking. Boards of French cheeses such as Comté, Époisses, Brillat-Savarin and Saint-Nectaire come with charcuterie, and there is duck liver pâté and homemade duck rillettes to spread on bread. From the evening menu, try the black pudding croquettes, a flap steak with béarnaise sauce or the croque monsieur with Parma ham and Brie. Some plates stray from France, including Georgian aubergine rolls and a gochujang beef tartare.
It is a good choice for a relaxed evening with friends or a casual date rather than a formal dinner. Book through Bistrochat or walk in; there is no service charge for tables of up to five. The team also runs a wine shop with home delivery.
