Fleur de Sel has been turning out crêpes on a quiet side street in Causeway Bay since 2010, which makes it one of the longest-running French spots in the neighbourhood. The room is small and homely, and the kitchen sticks to the Breton formula: thin buckwheat galettes for savoury fillings and wheat crêpes for dessert, cooked with crisp, golden edges.
Start with a savoury galette such as La Toulouse, filled with smoked sausage, Emmental, onions and French mustard, or the more unusual escargot version. Egg, cheese and mushroom combinations are the simple option. For dessert, the plain butter and sugar crêpe shows off the batter best, while the Speculoos crêpe with biscuit crumbs suits a sweet tooth.
It works for a relaxed lunch, a weekend brunch with children or a quick dinner before shopping, with mains at modest prices compared with most French restaurants in the area. Seating is limited, so call ahead for groups. The kitchen also runs crêpe-making workshops for schools and the Alliance Française. Closed on Mondays.
Hours and prices change, so please confirm with the restaurant before you go.
