Babette opened in early 2025 on the ground floor of Nan Fung Tower, where Des Voeux Road Central runs into Sheung Wan. Founders Remi Brunet and Clement Jacquel, who also run the sandwich shop Croque, call it a social eatery: an intimate room where French classics are cooked with a lighter, modern hand and meant for sharing.
Begin with beef tartare on toasted brioche and the deep-fried soft-boiled egg with corn sauce. The poached yellow chicken with Koshihikari rice is the dish to share, and the grilled ribeye with Béarnaise suits a bigger table. Gnocchi with chicken jus and Comté and handmade ravioles cover lighter appetites, and the rice pudding is a simple, well-made finish.
It suits friends sharing plates, casual celebrations and a relaxed weekend brunch. Lunch runs daily, with brunch hours at weekends, and dinner offers à la carte or a four-course set for two. Book through Bistrochat or Instagram. A sister restaurant, Chouchou, is on Johnston Road in Wan Chai.
