La Côte de Bœuf is a garden restaurant in Bang Rak, a few minutes from Fisherman's Village, run by chef Hervé and his partner Valérie. He was born in Lyon and spent decades in French and Swiss kitchens before the couple settled on Samui, and the cooking keeps to the generous bistro style of his home city.
Start with the onion soup gratinée, the salade lyonnaise with poached egg and chicken livers, roast bone marrow or Burgundy snails. The grill is the main draw: côte de bœuf for two served with marrowbone, flank or hanger steak, dry-aged Black Angus striploin and a Rossini beef with Périgueux sauce. Each comes with a choice of potatoes and a house sauce. Beef cheek confit with forest mushrooms is the slow-cooked alternative.
It suits couples and meat-loving groups, and it has free parking. It is cash or Thai QR only, with no cards. Book online for up to ten people and call for larger groups. Closed on Wednesdays.
