Brasserie 9 fills a white two-storey mansion on Soi Sathorn 6, set back behind a car park and a red awning. Inside are several dining rooms, a chef's table, private rooms for business dinners and The Brass, a cocktail and wine bar with a cigar room.
Chef Hervé Frérard, who has cooked in Paris, Taipei and Singapore, runs a broad brasserie menu. Good starters are the foie gras millefeuille, a crab cake and escargots, followed by frogs' legs meunière, mussels marinière, coq au vin or a Wagyu striploin to share. Some dishes are finished at the table, including steak flambé and crêpes Suzette, and the Grand Marnier soufflé is worth the wait. Set dinners run from three to seven courses.
It suits client lunches and family celebrations more than a quick bite. The weekday business lunch costs 690 baht for two courses or 890 baht for three, and the Sunday brunch adds free-flow oysters and live music. Smart casual dress fits the room. Book through Chope or by phone, and note that groups of five or more pay a deposit.
