Justin et Daryl brings together Justin Quek, the Singaporean chef known for his years cooking French food in Taipei, Shanghai and at Les Amis, and restaurateur Daryl Chan. Their Keong Saik Road shophouse describes itself as a bistronomy: classic French cooking with some Asian touches, served in a smart but easy-going room with outdoor seats.
Quek's long-time signatures are the reason to come. Order the mushroom cappuccino with praline toast, then the whole roasted French duck foie gras with raspberry vinegar and honey glaze, sized for two or more. Duck confit with sarladaise potatoes and the seafood platter of lobster, brown crab and oysters cover the bistro side. Save room for the thin apple tart with salted palm sugar sauce, or the île flottante.
It works for a date or a dinner with friends, and a weekend brunch menu runs from late morning. Reserve through SevenRooms or by phone. Hours have varied between sources, so check the website before a weekday visit.
