French Fold is the crêpe offshoot of the Merci Marcel group, and its Telok Ayer shophouse runs from early coffee to late drinks. The space is bright and casual, with a long bar, plants and wooden tables that fill with office workers at lunch and a younger crowd after work.
The menu is built on 100 per cent buckwheat galettes in the Breton style. The classics pair ham, Comté, mushrooms and a sunny-side egg; the house specialities go further, with Reblochon, Bayonne ham and baby potatoes, smoked haddock with spinach and cream, or duck confit with caramelised onion. Wheat crêpes cover dessert, from salted caramel to poached pear with Valrhona chocolate, and there are tarte flambée and cheese and charcuterie boards for sharing.
It suits a quick weekday lunch, a weekend brunch or a casual evening with friends. Book through SevenRooms. There are two other branches, at Palais Renaissance on Orchard Road and at Great World.
