Le Petit Katong took over the old Group Therapy café space inside the Katong V mall and turned it into a small French-inspired bistro. It keeps the café's all-day rhythm, so mornings bring pancakes and eggs, while lunch and dinner move on to a short list of bistro plates. The room is calm and bright, with prices that stay closer to café levels than to restaurant ones.
For the French side of the menu, start with goose rillettes on crostini, a cheese plate of Comté, Port Salut and Bleu d'Auvergne, or onion soup with melted cheese. Main courses include steak frites with a mustard cream sauce, mussels marinière with fries and tagliatelle with Burgundy-style red wine beef. Vegetarians can try the cauliflower steak with Comté and spiced hazelnut.
It suits an easy weeknight dinner or a weekend brunch in Katong rather than a special occasion. Bookings go through Chope, there is a kids' menu, and the menu also carries non-French dishes such as schnitzel, burgers and an XO barramundi.
