Brasero has been grilling meat on Joo Chiat Road for more than a decade, run by a French team and modelled on the steak-frites bistros of Paris. Older reviews and the company still use the name Braseiro. The shophouse dining room is casual and busy, and the open grill sets the tone.
The formula is simple: choose a flame-grilled meat and the kitchen keeps the homemade fries and green salad coming. The entrecôte comes in 200g, 300g or 400g cuts, and there is tenderloin, a whole duck breast and spicy lamb merguez. Before that, try the onion soup, Burgundy snails in garlic-parsley butter or a hand-cut beef tartare seasoned the Parisian way. Finish with crème brûlée or a café gourmand.
It is good value for groups, and a mixed-grill platter feeds four. Book online or by phone, especially at weekends, and there is a kids' menu. A second branch runs at 275 Thomson Road in Novena, and both open daily for lunch and dinner.
