My Cocotte Bistrot opened in Umalas in 2020 and has become a regular stop for French residents and families living between Kerobokan and Canggu. The room is casual and warm, with wooden tables, an open bar and a small concept store selling wine, cheese and French groceries.
The menu sticks to French home cooking. Look for oeufs mimosa, pâté de campagne or roasted bone marrow to start, then duck confit with potatoes cooked in duck fat, a 24-hour beef bourguignon, cassoulet with Toulouse sausage, or sole meunière. The house roast chicken comes whole, half or quarter with gravy and ratatouille. Savoury and sweet crêpes, from ham and Emmental to crêpe Suzette, make it a good daytime option, and there is a cheese platter for the table. A few Asian and pasta dishes sit alongside for anyone who wants them.
It suits a laid-back lunch, a family dinner or a glass of wine with cheese. Prices are modest by Bali standards. Book or ask questions on WhatsApp, and check for themed French evenings.
