La Cantine sits on a quiet lane in Nyuh Kuning, south of the Monkey Forest, and works as both a neighbourhood French bistro and a wine bar. The room is informal, with a pool table, shelves of free books and a corner for children, and the kitchen leans on local, seasonal produce.
The menu is short and French at heart. Share a charcuterie board or a cheese platter with a glass of wine, then move on to bœuf bourguignon, homemade gnocchi or a smoked-fish tartine. The croque monsieur is a reliable lunch. Daily specials and themed nights change the line-up through the week, and dessert might be a speculoos tiramisu. Signature cocktails and wines by the glass round things off.
It suits families at lunch, couples over a bottle in the evening and Ubud residents after a dependable bistro meal. Opening hours run from late morning until 11pm every day. Tables are booked by WhatsApp, which is worth doing on themed nights; otherwise walk in.
